You don't need to have a large following to make an impression on the internet or be qualified to play this game.

Optimism or not, it's not as though they can control what kind of people join the game once it goes live.
I think it's a more realistic approach this way.
Even if the results that they get from it may end up as huge headaches.

well, if they wanted a stress test for their game i've got it, but there is still a difference between fifty or so obnoxious twats and thousands and thousands of people...

or millions, if they want to aim that high. this still might not be enough to prepare them

You've got to start somewhere!
But it is impossible to be able to stress test for everything since people are so unpredictable.
Personally, I hope that this game ends up doing well.
Even though I haven't spent that much time with the game, I think it has a lot of potential.

i can at least agree it has potential, but i think the success will also hinge on how expensive the hardware will be at retail.

we got lucky they gave us the headsets and pcs good enough to run the game for free

i wonder if some of that is because they want to limit the variables that are being tested but even so the headsets are surely going to expense on their own.
