We can't ignore the things we need to do out of a sense of pride. We need to stop the coming Waves. That's the most important part.

It's not about pride. We don't even know if killing them will stop anything. Someone else could just get picked if we do that. It would just be a bloodbath.

If you wanted to stop everything, you could have killed anyone with Lily's core. Including me. But you're not, because you're too smart to do something like that.

If you'd asked Mithrun before his turning - he would have fought it, but he would have not faulted those hypothetically coming for his or Barrett's lives, too. Mithrun has said as much before - they don't know if Lily would just pick a new host, and Mithrun is perfectly willing to sacrifice a life to test that.

When he argues on a principle, he sticks to the letter of his word. He does not fuck around.

If you ask him now, though... Well, he'll still argue on the principle he perceives is correct, but his feelings are more muddled now. He doesn't like that.

Regardless, he doesn't want to get into a conversation about this if Barrett is going to bring mourning into it. Uta seemed nice enough, but he didn't really know her, and so her and her death exist outside of his periphery, and he speaks fully divorced from it. (And he can't even fathom anyone would mourn the loss of Fandaniel's identity.)
