I'm trying to figure out how any of this was coded the way it apparently was. I guess they could do this with a state machine I just don't see why it'd even be a feature.

Unless this was a glitch and you weren't supposed to pull a boss instance as a state in the first place.

Lily gave some of us special cores. I think it's how I use my bracelet. But they're not the same as what people got from Zelkova. I think Swallow said theirs were "Strange Cores"? Ours aren't.

Mithrun doesn't have a bracelet, though. I don't even know if he has a core like that. So I don't know if it means anything.

cubia's overwriting people's personalities, too.

that kind of capability shouldn't have been anywhere in the code to begin with, right?

they were convinced they weren't themselves. they took on new names and identities, even if bits of their original personality remained.

basically i don't think we can expect anything to follow any known logic anymore

There's been evidence of Cubia's tampering from the start; Areas that inflict changes of personality and inclination, for example; glitches that affect you offline... and then the elements that had to be patched out, like past memories displaying on mirrors or playing in the wind.

The capability has presumably always existed in the code, and CC Corp isn't off the hook for creating this technology. But CC Corp didn't want to show their hand so obviously; Cubia weaponized it while CC Corp tried to keep it hidden.
